The Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre, an affiliate of Women’s & Children’s Hospital,  has been designated a Breast ImagingCenter of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).   The Women’s Imaging Centre is the first and only facility in Acadiana to have achieved this prestigious designation. 

The designation signifies that the Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre meets the highest standards of the radiology profession. A center of excellence designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that have demonstrated excellence in breast imaging by achieving accreditation in mammography, breast ultrasound and ultrasoundguided biopsy, and stereotactic breast biopsy.

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre  has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

“The Women’s Imaging Centre voluntarily underwent ACR's rigorous review process and was certified as meeting or exceeding nationally accepted standards. It recognizes the quality of every aspect of the center including our staff and state-of-the-art equipment.  We are very proud of this achievement. This designation  represents the ‘gold standard’ for breast imaging and  demonstrates the staff’s  well-coordinated commitment to delivering care at this high level,” states Kathy Bobbs, CEO, Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
