Bone Density
Bone density scanning, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) or bone densitometry, is a form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss. DXA is today’s established standard for measuring bone mineral density (BMD). DXA is most often performed on the lower spine and hips.
Bone density tests are a quick and painless procedure.
Dedicated Breast MRI
Women’s Imaging Centre-Lafayette houses Louisiana’s first and only dedicated breast MRI system. This system, called Aurora, is an advanced MRI scanner designed specifically to image breasts. The Aurora is the only commercially available, FDA-cleared dedicated breast imaging system available today.
Digital Mammography
Women’s Imaging Centre-Lafayette utilizes state of the art Digital Mammography technology on all screening and diagnostic mammography exams. Digital Mammography is different than standard film mammography in the way the images are recorded, viewed and manipulated by the Radiologist, and stored. Since the Radiologist can electronically manipulate the images brightness, contrast, and magnification, abnormal areas may be more clearly visualized. Also, there is no waiting for film to develop, which means shorter exam times. There are also less re takes do to over or underexposure, saving time, and reducing radiation exposure.
Ultrasound
Women’s Imaging Centre-Lafayette performs both high resolution hand held as well as high-resolution automated whole breast ultrasound. Both types of ultrasound exams are performed with the most state of the art equipment on the market. The U-Systems automated whole breast ultrasound device is the first and only of its kind in the State of Louisiana, and is an effective adjunct to screening mammography in patients that have mammographically dense breasts.
